Strömsfors was formerly hydropower activity, hand paper mill, clothing factory, guesthouse operation for soldiers, silver fox farming, eel fishing, private residence, upper-class Guesthouse etc.Located on a map from 1698, Strömsfors was marked as "Bÿ common" with no buildings marked, only forest areas. On a property survey from 1705, where Algustorp's diagonal dam is also visible, a diagonal dam is marked at Strömstorp (not Strömsfors), with the text "Liungbackar" above. The dam had the same layout on the map, as it has today. The first paper mill - a small hand paper mill, - along the Almaån was founded in 1762 just north of Siktemöllan and was named Britedal. In the 1790s, two more hand paper mills were built along the Almaån: Almafors and Strömsfors, upstream from Britedal. On a single shift map from 1822 "Strömsfors Pappersbruk" is marked with a diagonal dam.
